Mt. Valley Vigilantes - Cowboy Action Division of Mountain Valley Sportsman’s Association
Cowboy action shooting is a multi-faceted shooting sport in which contestants (men, women and juniors) compete with firearms typical of those used in the taming of the old west: single action revolvers, pistol caliber lever action rifles, and old time shotguns. The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, “old west” style, requiring each participant to adopt a shooting alias and wear the clothing style of the late 19th century. Club matches consist of shooting four to six “stages” using two single action pistols, a lever action rifle and a shotgun on each stage. We shoot lead bullets at steel reactive targets and scoring is based on accuracy and speed. Operating under the rules and guidelines of the SASS, MVSA holds  Cowboy Action matches the first Saturday and Sunday of each month. The matches start promptly at 10:00 am each day. Registration is at 9:00AM and Shooters meeting is at 9:45. The match fee is $10.00. Members and non-members are invited to  participate. All new shooters are required attend a shooters orientation  prior to participating. The biggest event of the year is the annual "Shootin in the Shade" event  which is scheduled for Labor Day Weekend. Check the Calendar of  Events for current dates. The mountain valley vigilantes are affiliated with the single action shooting society (sass), for more information see “shooters handbook” at www.sassnet.com.
