The MVSA Action Shooting Range includes a 10-bay range with an air conditioned building, pavilion and modern restrooms. There is a large covered bay and electricity at every other bay, allowing the use of large fans on hot summer days. Each bay has a covered staging area with target stands and sticks available for use. Shooters should plan to bring their own cardboard backers and targets.
The Action range is primarily used for competition, such as International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA), Multi-Gun, and Rimfire, and for training. MVSA Action Shooting encourages friendly competition, social comradery, and shooting skill development in an organized, safe format for pistol, rifle and shotgun shooters.
On the far side of the property an extension of the Action Range has been developed with wooded shooting areas in small valleys and a new rifle range with targets from 100 to 400 yards from a single position. See the section 400-Yard & Woods Ranges to read about these areas, and the rules for accessing them.
MVSA’s Action Shooting range is used for scheduled training courses, including training and drills for local law enforcement agencies. Periodic courses for handgun and rifle marksmanship, such as Project Appleseed and defensive handgun classes, are offered. Concealed Handgun Carry License (CHCL) courses, by state-authorized instructors who are MVSA members, are also conducted. Check the MVSA calendar and e-mail notifications for public training opportunities.
The Action Shooting range is open to all members seven days a week for practice when monthly matches are not in progress. Contact Ted Smethers (tsmethe@gmail.com, 501-620-0601) or Drew Warwick (dreww68@aol.com, 501-590-9251) for more information about action shooting activities and events.
