BIG 50 Trap Tournament

On March 7th, 62 shooters took part in a BIG 50 event. A Big 50 is a small trap shooting program consisting of 50 target events instead of the normal 100 targets. Three events were held: Trap Singles shot from the 16 yard line, Handicap yardage where each shooter is required to shoot from a distance based on their ability, and Trap Doubles where 25 pairs of targets were thrown. Shooters may participate in 1, 2, or all 3 events of the day and do not have to be members of the Amateur Trapshooting Association to participate. Over 6500 targets were thrown at this BIG 50 tournament.

SPA CITY 400 TRAPSHOOTING TOURNAMENT

On March 21st, 16 shooters took part in MVSA’s annual SPA CITY 400 trapshooting tournament. This annual event is held on the weekend preceding spring break each year. Many special precautions and changes were made to hold this event while many ranges have been cancelling tournaments due to the risks of spreading COVID-19 virus. The SPA CITY 400 had 4 events consisting of 100 targets each. Only 5 of the shooters entered all 4 events. Maintaining the concentration required to engage 400 targets is mentally difficult and physically demanding as the 12-gauge shotgun is repeatedly lifted and fired at a target which is moving away from the shooter at over 40 miles per hour. The best scores were earned by junior shooters and they were awarded shotgun shells for their accomplishment.
